“I believe that inspiration is the result of hard work, but the only thing which can stimulate inspiration in an actor is constant and keen observation every day of his life.” ——  Richard Boleslawski

Beijing, merged with new and old but fast-changing city, is vividly splendid with the flow of crowed, traffic, and flashing lights. The bustling city scene is the epitome of society, but the compact life compresses the time for everyone to think as well. While deal with such fast paces and changes, one's perception will gradually become numb. That is what the founders of The Dome Studio, Chen Kuo-fu, Zhou Xun, and Chen Kun, want to discuss about before undertaking this project. For actors, the perception and observation of life is an important element to improve their performance. It is under this premise that we decided to build a carrier allowing actors to enrich themselves together.

With only few kinds of materials and the naturally gentle colors, consist of The Dome Studio. Near to the forest park, the green scenery from outdoor is introduced into the interior. Wood, terrazzo, plants, and sunlight are the key elements filled in this project. In addition to displaying the texture of materials, the warm nude colors harmoniously lead to the calm atmosphere as well. In terms of spatial layout, there are different functional plans from top to bottom: teaching area on the 5F & 4F, office on the 3F & 2F, and finally the coffee reception hall on 1st floor. You may find out that it's more private planningto the higher floors, but all of them remain free and open at the same time.

Although it is an office area, we also try to make the environment as comfortable as possible. There are private meeting rooms, open desks, and a reading corner for relaxing or discussing together. It's not a dull place, but a comfortable and rhythmic office.

The establishment of The Dome Studio originated from the loss or numbness of the performers on the stage under the high-speed transmission of media information. This is an experimental platform for sharing and recreating. Inheriting this concept, we regard each student as the protagonist. We are making the role of "space" an unobtrusive, elegant, quiet and simple Dome Studio.
